THE COMPANY

Biocracia is more than a company, it is a way of life

What is Biocracia?

BIOCRACIA is an organic clothing and fabric company, based in Spain. It was born as an alternative to the conventional textile industry, because it is committed to respecting life, promoting sustainability and the development of all those involved in its process. BIOCRACIA makes garments and textile products that are 100% ecological from organic cotton and natural fbres that are dyed exclusively with natural dyes from medicinal plants. As a Triple Balance company we ofer comprehensive and cutting-edge solutions inspired by UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The way we work

We work with suppliers in India with whom we share the same ethical values and desire for change, guaranteeing fair wages for workers and promoting gender equality in Fairtrade conditions; because we believe that by working in a team we are stronger and international business relationships can be honest, plural and sustainable. Together we work to meet the needs of our clients and contribute to improving our world; in this way we give new meaning to the word “Globalization”.

In fact we approach "Globalization" from a perspective of health, where work represents empowerment and abundance for all. Our 100% organic fabrics GOTS/ OEKOTEX certifcated are manufactured in India but the textiles are made in Spain, where we support local workshops to help recover Spanish industry, which has been so damaged by the large-scale transfer of companies to countries with lower costs, such as India. In order to contibute towards erradicating the consequences of these practices we donate 10% of our profts to NGOs both in India and Spain, as part of our commitment to erradicating poverty and empowering people through work.

Values/Principles

“Sometimes we feel that what we do is just a drop in the ocean, but the ocean would be less if it lacked that drop”

Biocracia emerged as a company that is led by the values, that its name represents. Society needs to live in harmony with nature, and respect its cycles. From the exercising of responsibility to respecting the plurality of its people, we seek to guarantee fundamental rights. We are committed to promoting ecologically balanced, coherent work practices. That is why we promote organic farming as a strategy to recover our degraded natural spaces. This commitment to the theconservation of ecosystems requires the use of natural dyes in the processing of our fabrics, because the current practice of only partially reducing the use of harmful chemicals seems insufcient to us.

OUR TEAM

Bárbara Rasso CEO/ FOUNDER

Hello, I'm Bárbara Rasso, the founder of BIOCRACIA, and I would frst like to thank you for reading these lines. I am an inquisitive and sensitive person, I like to know where things come from, and to be in contact with nature. My relationship with the textile industry began with my family: from grandparents who were tailors and made trousers on my mother’s side, and a fabric representative on my father’s. I have been "among fabrics" all my life, designing, cutting, sewing and developing my creativity especially in the audiovisual world and the performing arts. Two years ago I decided to create my own design company and give a new direction to my life. I wanted it to be something special, very respectful of the environment and the people who gave it life, so I decided totravel to India to personally meet my suppliers and investigate the most sustainable forms of production that were in line with my values. My experience was both traumatic and hopeful in equal parts. Seeing the cruelty of the textile industry – personally - is something that marks you forever. It made me think a lot about my previous concept of sustainability. I had to make a very drastic decision, if I wanted to produce garments without environmental impact I had to use only natural fabrics and natural dyes, discard accessories, and minimize or eliminate any negative efects. I renounced brand names and I wondered about what might be the best way to contribute to improving our environment in a global and inclusive way. From this, BIOCRACIA emerged, as an exercise in responsibility and a positive proposition, where we can all be protagonists of change with something so routine as how we dress each day.

Jalpesh Parekh International Sales Manager

Jalpesh A. Parekh is our ‘travel companion’ in India. He has a long career in the textile industry. Through his experience as an international sales manager of distrbuting companies of chemical textile dyes, he was able to learn in depth the problems associated with the manufacture of garments and their consequences in the short and long term. Concerned about these practices, he decided to join with us , convinced that acting coherently is the only way to preserve our environment. Its motto is: "Good actions are the answer to our challenges. Choosing wisely is guaranteeing our future ̈. Kirthish is a person who is especially sensitive to inequality and the fght against poverty; it is part of his culture to collaborate with development cooperation projects. He understands business relationships as a platform of collaboration and a service where he can promote abundance. Despite the difculties of the current industrialized world, he is committed to the implementation of an ecological, honest and sustainable textile industry, where benefts are shared to create a more just society.
